Mr. Know it all has good suggestions. I have AVG free, and spybot. The two of them together makes it so not much comes through. On the rare occasion that I do get something that these can not get out, I have been downloading the free trial of stopsign, running the scan and removing all the entries of the malware myself. It's a nice one because it tells you exactly where the virus is hiding, including the registry. Many do not do that.
