I have used Zone Alarm Firewall, I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I have just changed to Avast antivirus and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from download.com / I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti - spy products but never use more than one A / V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A / V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

Avira - No web guard, Anti drive by. Better than the other two but still not good enough with today's ever changing internet. Pay for your AV. You will be miles ahead of the others and way safer. Get Kaspersky if you can. It ain't cheap but it works. If you can not and all you can do is free. do not expect much. do not get upset when you get infected

Just yesterday, i had a horrible trojan on my laptop and i was foolish enough to go days without running a scan. well i had to hack my own laptop, go into safe mode, restore it, and then run a scan.
